Italian – How are you?

October 8, 2007 · Leave a Comment

LearnItalianPod.com’s 4th lesson is about asking how you’re doing.

Here’s some vocabulary

oggi [oddʒi] : today
così e così [kozi e kozi] : so and so
male : bad
perché [perke] : because
Yo sono occupato [okkupato]: I’m busy.
Yo sono felice [felitʃe]: I’m happy.
mia mama : my mom
è : is (mia mama è = my mom is)
a : at/in
Venezia [venetsia] : Venice (Mia mama è a Venezia = My mom is in Venice).
Che bello! [ke bellɔ] : How nice!

Some notes on pronunciation: ‘

  • “ke” is spelled che. I thought at first that che bello was spelled que bello, but nope, this is Italian, not Spanish. So ‘ke’ is che.
  • Italian seems to have double consonant sounds. So bello is pronounced “bel-lo”, not “be-lo,” and occupato is pronounced “ok-ku-pa-to.” I’ll pay more attention to these sounds in the future.
